This LibGuide will provide you with information about how you can bring the library home with you even during this uncertain time. If you're practicing social distancing, we've included some free things you can do online. Updated daily!

Hello and thank you for visiting this LibGuide. This guide provides information and resources for those of us who are practicing social distancing from home. Your library has got you covered for those moments when the day seems like it's dragging on.

In this guide you'll find: our updated library services (updated daily), how to check out e-Books and e-Audiobooks for free with your MPL card, how to stream movies and educational courses for free, government information regarding COVID-19, and other ideas to keep you entertained while at home.

Due Dates & Fines

Amnesty month has begun and will continue through April 30. Patrons will not be charged late fees during this period. Materials on hold for patrons will be extended for 4 weeks. We encourage patrons to utilize our digital resources, including e-Books, e-Audiobooks, and film streaming service. Find out more in our e-Branch. Patrons may access our digital resources even if they owe fines.

Book Returns

Our outdoor book drop remains open 24/7 though we encourage borrowers to hold on to their items until further notice. Wi-Fi hotspots should not be turned in to the book drop.

Card Renewals

Library cards set to expire will be extended through May 30.

Interlibrary Loans

Please note that requested items from other libraries are not available at this time.

Digital Services

McAllen Library Cardholders can access digital services, including Overdrive/Libby, RBdigital, TumbleBook, Kanopy, Tutor.com, Learning Express, TexShare Databases and many more! Visit our e-Branch. Patrons who wish to apply for an e-Card may contact 956-681-3000 for more information.

Virtual Library Programs

Library staff are offering virtual programs online such as story times, craft programs, webinars, and tutorials. "Like" us on Facebook for updates on these and other library services.

Event Closures

All library events and room reservations are canceled until further notice.

Curbside Pickup

McAllen Public Library now offers curbside pickup Monday - Friday 10AM to 3PM. When you place an item on hold for curbside service pickup, please wait to come to the library until you receive a notification that your items are ready for pickup. For more information about McAllen Public Library's implementation of this service, please read the following.
