A complete storytime or STEM lesson in each kit! Backpacks are available for check-out from the Children's Department at McAllen Public Library. Currently we have twelve available, but we hope to expand our collection soon!
What do I need to check out a backpack?
You will need an adult library card in good standing from McAllen Public Library or one of the libraries in the Hidalgo County library system. Backpacks are kept in the MPL Children's Department and are checked out at the Children's desk. We also ask that you return the backpacks to the Children's desk. Please do not place backpacks in the book return.
How long do I get to keep the backpack?
Our backpacks check out for one week at a time. Late fees will apply to any backpack not returned after a week. Backpacks cannot be renewed.
Can I check out more than one backpack at a time?
Backpacks are limited to one per family. However, you can check out another backpack as soon as you turn in the one you have.
Can I place a hold on a backpack?
At this time we do not offer holds on backpacks due to the limited amount we have.
If I have multiple children, can I get more copies of the activities?
Simply ask at the Children's desk when you are checking out the backpack, and we will be happy to provide extra copies of the worksheets.
What happens if I lose or damage something in the backpack?
Please let us know when you return the backpack. We'll contact you if we need to charge for anything.
