Start with yourself and work backwards.
Gather all the information you already know.
Document your information using a Pedigree/Ancestry Chart and Family Group Sheet.
Interview your living relatives - collect stories, photos, and documents.
Focus your work - one generation at a time.
Seek primary sources documents such as Birth, Marriage and Death Records.
Be critical of all information including stories from family members and the Internet.
Always record and include a citation for any document located.
